Spanish Officer's Sword 1857 pattern, as described in Barcelo Rubi's book "Spanish Portable Weaponry - Armamento Portatil Espanol". Slightly curved 30 inches long blade, reinforced with a nerve in its whole length. The blade is single edged, except in third final third, where it becomes double edged by means of remarkable "elman" or edge extension like in Turkish sabres. Blade is nicely engraved on both sides with "Marina Espanola" with crowned anchor on one and "Fabrica Toledo" with crowned Spanish Crest on other. The brass hilt with folding guard and the grip covered with white shark skin, all modelled after British pattern with Lion's head on the pommel. The black leather scabbard with brass mounts and one suspension ring.
Condition: very nice for its age. Blade remains almost all nickel plating with some loss around the tip. There is some shark skin loss on the grip, but twisted wire is solid. Leather scabbard has all leather but it is in rather fragile condition. Overall, very nice Naval Sword.
