Beautiful and in great original condition English pattern 1828 basket-hilted infantry officer's broadsword for Highland regiments. Complete steel basket hilt with liner. Shark skin covered grip with brass wire wrapping. Beautiful steel polished blade engraved on both sides - fore: "G V R" under the Crown, leaves and flowers of thistle, back: Royal Crest under the Crown (House of Hanover, Windsor) and more thistle engravings. There is a Wilkinson star with brass stamp on ricasso. Light, brown leather covered scabbard in WWI style.
Condition: Near excellent. Steel hilt and pommel show some scattered dark patina. Very good, solid liner with wear on the edges. Excellent grip with no damage to shark skin and solid, very tight wire. Great polished steel blade with just a few darker spots - photos will show the best. Scabbard has lots of wear to the leather but no major damage except hanging loop on the back.
Overall wonderful WWI Broadsword, which look beautiful above fireplace.
