Beautiful XVII Century Indian Talwar with English (Shefield) made high quality blade. This was probably a gift from East india Company to one of the local Maharajas. Slightly curved 33 inches blade, engraved with floral motives on both sides and mirror polished. Blade is very sharp, but it looks like a factory sharpening before polish. Steel hilt with golden "Koftgari" decoration and big round pommel in form of a lotus pod. Top of the pommel has elaborate ring. It comes with a velver covered scabbard. Condition: Mint blade, retaining all mirror polish. Hillt retains almost all gold and showing some patina between Koftgari lines. Scabbard velvet is slightly worn and there is a separation at the tip. Overall super interesting sword, great additition for an advanced Indian Sword collection.
Procenance:
Sword is from a former collection of Leo S. Figiel.
