Very interesting French or Austrian Infantry officer's sword with much older rapier blade. The hilt is of pattern 1798 with folding combat guard which was fashionable during Consular Napoleon conflict against Austria in Northern Italy. Steel hilt, pommel and guards, black horn grip with brass twisted wire. 32 inches long rapier blade with short fuller at upper part on both sides. Probably maker name inside the fuller: "F.L. VICIO" on one side and "AHACVM" on the other. Brown leather scabbard with iron fittings and two rings.
Condition: very good. Blade shows age with scattered shallow pitting, mainly on lower part. Clean hilt covered with some patina. Great grip, some scratches but solid horn. Brass wire is nice and tight. Very good and solid scabbard, leather shows age but has no brakes or bends. Very good iron fittings with no dents.
Interesting and very unusual sword from the end of 18th Century.
