This is an early Model 1816 called light cavalry sabre, but it is massive and looks more like heavy cavalry. It is an officers model with decorated and gold gilded three branches hilt, guard and pommel. It is similar to later Model 1822 but for the style of the pommel and having three branches on the hilt instead of two. Massive 39 inches long blade with one wide and one narrow fuller on each side. Outers side of the blade bears an inscription; "Donne par le Roi" (Given by the King) and two inspection stamps. Spine is marked: "Manufacture Royale de Klingenthal May 1823". Three branches hilt  and round pommel with chiseled decoration. Bottom of guard marked "Versailles a Paris". Wooden, leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. Nice gold gilded sword knot attached to the top of the branches by the pommel. Iron scabbard with two rings.
Condition: magnificent blade with some darker spots but no pitting. Excellent hilt and pommel with  more then 50% of gold gild remaining. Excellent grip with solid leather and tight wire wrap - nothing missing. Excellent sword knot. Iron scabbard covered with uniform dark brown patina has no bends or dents.  (
