Double barrel shotgun by Deutsche Waffenfabrik Georg Knaak in Berlin, Germany. Caliber: 2 x 16 gauge. Breech loader. The gun maker Deutsche Waffenfabrik Georg Knaak is listed in Berlin, Germany circa 1880-1910. The upper part of the left side barrel displays the gunmaker address, "Deutsche Waffenfabrik Georg Knaak". The upper part of the right side barrel displays the gunmaker location, "Berlin". The Deutsche Waffenfabrik Georg Knaak was a gun maker and an international dealer in all kinds of arms, ammo and military equipment. Both barrels also display following markings, "'Excelsior Stahl Witten', 'Marke Adler'" (Adlerwaffenwerke?) and a Double Head Eagle (please, see pictures). The shotgun features 29 inch long twist barrels with gunsmith's signature. The rib is matted on its entire length. Full engraving with hunting scenes and/or floral style decor (breech, tang, hammers, trigger guard, etc.). Walnut half stock with hardened rubber buttplate and a pistol grip. There is a cheek-piece on the left side of the buttstock. Diamond checkering at the wrist of the stock, as well as in the front part of the stock. Horn trigger guard and a pistol grip cap. Several German proof marks and other markings are present on the barrels under the stock (please, see pictures). Two sling swivels. Overall length is 45.75 inch. The barrels length is 29 inch. CONDITION: Fine. 75-80% of browning finish is still on metal. Most of the finish wear is on the barrels. Some finish is turning to gray color. Occasional spots of light patina on the barrels. The engraving on metal is beautifully preserved. Fine bores. No dents in tubes. The hammers are in great shape (they are slightly different). Strong and smooth action. Mechanically the gun is in fine condition, as well. All the internal parts of the shotgun are in fine condition, with no visible wear. The stock shows minor handling marks and light dings. The checkering is slightly worn. The hardened rubber buttplate tang shows a small hairline crack. All the markings on metal are also nicely preserved. Nice German double barrel shotgun! Antique.
