An important Indo-Persian Shield c.1725 - 1775, entirely handforged of thick steel with deeply chiseled geometrical motifs overall. Shield is elaborately embellished with precious metals as well, retaining some silver (now tarnished black). Probably made in Iran (Persia) during the Zand or Qajar dynasties, a beautiful example in a very nice condition.  Excellent - 18 1/4 dia. with heavy applied brass edge as found on the best examples.
