Scarce Imperial Russian Berdan M.2 socket bayonet. The Russian books calls the bayonet "Model 1870", while Janzen calls it "Model 1871". This was the first Russian bayonet with quadrangular blade and with screwdriver tip. Serial number is stamped on the base of the socket. The base of the blade displays Izhevsk Arms Factory arsenal markings, "Bow and Arrow". The bayonet comes with an unusual leather scabbard with brass fittings. The latter does not display any markings. The scabbard shows age and is undoubtedly original. The exact origin of the scabbard is unknown. The Berdan leather scabbards were manufactured by several countries. Overall length is 23 inch. Blade length is 20.50 inch. CONDITION: Low fine. The bayonet is in white, with almost no blue finish left. Some light patina. All the Russian markings on the socket and blade are clearly visible. The locking ring works fine. The leather scabbard is in very good condition. The leather is still soft. The stitching is strong. (Janzen p.163/2)
